14. Environmental labelling: a key to unlock/enhance consumer environmental consciousness

Hosting MEPs Mr. Bogovič, Ms. Mortler and Ms. Tolleret

Start

May 28, 2021 - 10:30

End

April 28, 2021 - 13:00

“Within the Green Deal, the EU is developing processes to assess the environmental value of consumer products. At the same time some Member States are considering environmental labels at national level (e.g. eco-score in France) while business increasingly wants to prove their environmental credentials to consumers;  This uncoordinated and non-harmonised approach risks creating chaos.  It will be necessary to discuss common principles, ensuring the free movement of goods and consumer protection.

In the event the European Food Forum will ask: How can this be accomplished? What role do life-style changes play? What can/should the food industry do, in order to support it? What should be the best approach to support EU consumers? What role will technology play in the process?

In the spirit of the European Food Forum’s mission to foster dialogue and debate on the issues that matter, the two hours debate will encourage an open sharing of perspectives from Public sector, industry, retailers, consumer organization, research and civil organizations on how possibly to find the best solution.”
