“Ms. Marlene Mortler MEP, Ms. Rosa Thun MEP and Ms. Irene Tolleret MEP, on behalf of The European Food Forum are delighted to convene a two hour content-rich and debate-filled and uncensored exchange of views on the 30th of September 2020 about “Food packaging and plastics: How to achieve circularity and reduce environmental impacts”.

At a crucial time of rising societal awareness about the impact of plastic on the environment and growing policy responses seeking to reduce the negative impacts, the EFF believes it is time to shed more light on some of the challenges, opportunities and forward-looking solutions for food packaging to be able to achieve circularity and reduce environmental impacts .

In the spirit of the European Food Forum’s mission, the debate will encourage an open sharing of perspectives from actors across the value chain, policy-makers at EU and national level and civil society who play a key role in their consumption choices and the way they dispose of packaging.

The objective of the two hour debate is to bring to the fore the European Commission approach to tackling plastic, hear from France how they plan to tackle the issue in their country, lift the veil on the real issues that flexible packaging has to contend with, including infrastructure and food safety, delve into some of the prospective solutions that technology provides, understand why some food products are perceived to have “too-much” packaging and what consumers and NGOs are willing and able to do to play their part.”
